Overview & Band Identity

Deep in the mountainous region of Corinthia, southern Greece, a small village called Chiliomodi gave birth to one of the most powerful heavy rock acts to emerge from the Mediterranean in the 21st century. 1000mods is a Greek heavy rock trio formed in 2006, known for their thunderous fusion of stoner rock, psychedelic metal, hard rock, and doom-laden grooves. The band consists of Dani G. on vocals and bass, Giorgos T. on guitar, and Labros G. on drums.

The band's name is a clever linguistic pun - the Greek word for "thousand" is "chilia" (χίλια), directly referencing the village of Chiliomodi where they were founded. This local pride runs deep in their identity, yet their sound has proven universal, earning them a devoted following across Europe, North America, and beyond. Over nearly two decades, they have released five studio albums, toured relentlessly across more than 25 countries, and established their own independent record label, Ouga Booga and the Mighty Oug Recordings.

Formation & Early Years (2006–2010)

1000mods came together in 2006 when childhood friends Dani G., Giorgos T., and Labros G. decided to channel their shared passion for heavy, fuzzy rock music into a band. The Greek underground rock scene at the time was relatively small, but the trio quickly made an impression with their raw energy and thick, downtuned guitar sound.

In 2007, they independently released their debut EP Blank Reality, a raw and unpolished collection that showcased their early potential. Two years later, in 2009, they followed up with Liquid Sleep, released through SuiSound Productions and CTS Productions. That same year, they also put out The Woodrose Effect EP, further refining their sound.

A pivotal moment came in 2010 when they released a split record titled 1000mods vs Wight through Fat & Holy Records, sharing vinyl space with the UK-based doom band Wight. This split helped introduce them to a wider European underground audience and set the stage for their debut full-length.

Rise to Prominence: Super Van Vacation & Vultures (2011–2015)

In October 2010, the band entered the studio with legendary producer Billy Anderson - known for his work with Sleep, Neurosis, and Melvins - to record their debut album. The result, Super Van Vacation, was released in 2011 through Kozmik Artifactz Records. The album was a statement of intent: massive riffs, hypnotic grooves, and a confident swagger that belied the band's young age.

To promote the album, 1000mods embarked on two extensive European tours, playing 40 shows across 15 countries. They appeared at major festivals including Rockwave Festival (Greece), Desertfest (London/Berlin), and Lake on Fire (Germany), earning a reputation as a must-see live act.

Their sophomore effort, Vultures, arrived on May 30, 2014, via The Lab Records. Darker, heavier, and more focused than its predecessor, Vultures marked a significant artistic leap. The album was supported by a two-month European headlining tour called "Claws Over Europe" in late 2014, followed by a high-profile support tour with American stoner rock legends The Atomic Bitchwax in May 2015. These tours cemented 1000mods as a rising force in the European stoner rock scene.

Repeated Exposure To... & International Breakthrough (2016–2019)

September 2016 saw the release of the band's third album, Repeated Exposure To..., on their newly founded label Ouga Booga and the Mighty Oug Recordings. The album was a collaborative production between the band and engineer George Leodis, recorded at Wreck It Sound Studios in Corinth, Greece. Mastering was handled by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Studios in Portland, Oregon - the same studio behind Sleep and Toxic Holocaust records.

Musically, the album expanded the band's palette, incorporating more psychedelic textures and dynamic shifts while retaining their signature heavy crunch. Tracks like "Loose" and "She" became fan favorites.

The touring cycle was monumental. In October 2016, they embarked on a 27-date European tour alongside Swiss heavy psych pioneers Monkey3 and Greek rockers Moaning Cities. The following year, their "Repeated and Exposed To..." tour covered 42 live dates across 15 European countries, with festival appearances at Up in Smoke (Sweden), Desertfest, and Keep it Low (Germany).

A major milestone arrived in early 2018 when 1000mods crossed the Atlantic for the first time. Their maiden North American tour spanned 29 shows across Mexico, Canada, and the United States during February and March. This tour opened the door to a whole new continent of fans.

Youth of Dissent & The Seattle Chapter (2020–2023)

For their fourth album, 1000mods took a bold step - they traveled to Seattle, Washington to work with acclaimed producer Matt Bayles, whose resume includes Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mastodon, and Minus the Bear. Recording took place at London Bridge Studio and Studio Litho, two iconic Seattle facilities. Mixing was done at Red Room, with mastering at Resonant Mastering.

The result, Youth of Dissent, was released in spring 2020. The album represented a sonic evolution, blending the band's Greek stoner roots with the gritty, rain-soaked atmosphere of Seattle grunge and alternative rock. The lead single "Pearl" was released ahead of the album and quickly became one of their most streamed tracks.

Despite the global pandemic disrupting touring plans, Youth of Dissent was met with critical acclaim and expanded the band's audience significantly. The album's themes of rebellion, self-reflection, and societal frustration resonated deeply with listeners worldwide.

In fall 2023, 1000mods returned to the United States for a coast-to-coast tour spanning two months. They shared stages with Freedom Hawk, Valley of the Sun, Wizzerd, and The Well, reconnecting with their North American fanbase and building momentum for their next chapter.

Cheat Death - The Heaviest Chapter (2024–Present)

In April 2024, the band announced the departure of guitarist Giannis S., who left for personal reasons while maintaining an amicable relationship with his former bandmates and continuing to collaborate through their shared label. Marios Samaris (Blame Kandinsky) filled in on guitar for the UK and Ireland tour, while Ioannis Fotiadis handled guitar duties during the European Fall Tour.

On November 8, 2024, 1000mods unleashed their fifth studio album, Cheat Death, released worldwide through Ouga Booga and the Mighty Oug Recordings and in the United States through Ripple Music. The album is widely regarded as the band's heaviest and most aggressive work to date, delivering ten powerful tracks that blend metal ferocity, punk energy, and the band's trademark psych-infused heaviness.

The tracklist includes the crushing opener "Overthrown" (7:44), the punk-influenced "Speedhead" (3:52), the doom-laden title track "Cheat Death" (5:35), and the epic closer "Grey, Green Blues" (10:10). A limited edition of 500 splatter vinyl copies sold out quickly, underscoring the band's dedicated collector fanbase.

As of 2026, 1000mods continue to tour actively, with confirmed shows including an Athens headline concert in March 2026 and festival appearances across Europe. Their journey from a small Greek village to international heavy rock prominence stands as one of the most inspiring stories in the modern underground.

Musical Style & Artistic Identity

1000mods defy easy categorization, which is part of their strength. Their sound draws from a wide spectrum of heavy music:

- Stoner Rock - Thick, fuzzy guitar tones and groove-oriented rhythms form the backbone of their sound, placing them alongside acts like Kyuss, Fu Manchu, and Elder.

- Doom Metal - Slower, crushing passages with deep, resonant bass and weighty drumming reflect a clear doom influence.
